Hello! I’m Bethan and at the time of writing this blurb, I’m a thirty-something year old wife, mother and teacher. In recent years I have really started to think about what is important to me and try and ensure that I spend my time, money and energy on things that really do matter. So what matters?
I always remember my mum saying to me (and I’m paraphrasing here) that if you can spend your money on material items, they will be replaced and forgotten but spending your money on doing things, will leave you memories that will last a lifetime. I can’t actually remember what this comment was in reference to or what exactly she actually said, but you get the idea. This sentiment has stuck with me and as a result my principle Value is ‘memory-making’.
With this in mind, my husband and I spent a lot of time talking about what sort memories we wanted to create. We have spent hours telling tales of our own early years and one thing that permeates our memories is a sense of adventure. I recall numerous family camping trips and time spent with my brother exploring the wild, mountainous countryside of North Wales. My husband remembers a particular trip his family made where they drove from the Isle of Wight to Scotland overnight then explored various parts of the county as they journeyed back home to Torquay, Devon. Don’t get me wrong, we love chilling out at home, but we are mindful that we want our family life to be punctuated with trips, holiday and activities, which evoke memories of fun and adventure.
So this leaves us with our Values of a life of adventure, quality time spent together as a family, making memories for us all to reflect on in the future.
